This weekend Pavs took the 125 mile trip North to table topping Billingham RFC. There has never been a game between the two clubs, so an interesting afternoon was in the offing. Unfortunately, on the day, Pavs came across a side on top form on a hugely quick artificial surface. Early on in the game honours were even until Billingham pacey passing gave them the opportunity to go in front. From this point on the home side gained in confidence and took every opportunity to go to the width. For their part bravely endeavoured to stay in the game and display the temerity that has seem them accrue 12 league points in the previous three games. Pavs did have attacking opportunities, but a well organised defence kept them at arm’s length for most of the half. Half time score 31-0 to Billingham.
Pavs introduced Kedem Morgan, Owen Taylor and Alistair Plant to the fray in order to add fresh legs. A few errors crept into the Pavs set piece which allowed Billingham to keep up the pressure, but one cannot fault the commitment displayed by all of the eighteen as they battled against a confident and pacey Billingham. Final score 60-0.
A difficult day for the boys a long way from home. Nothing else to do, but take it on the chin, lick the wounds and get back on the training paddock In preparation for the visit of Cleckheaton RFC to The Stump.
