Paviors RFC

40-40 wasn’t the real score line but as we completely mixed up players from Paviors and Corsairs from the start having one team winning over the other on GMS would be unfair. The actual result was something like:

White team (Polar bears). 5 tries, 2 conversions, 3 challenge bonus points

Green team (shirts). 8 tries, 2 conversions, 3 challenge bonus points

The Green (shirts) team came out on top, but rugby was the overall winner with exciting open rugby being played by both sides.

We played 5 x 10 mins sections and for each section the captain picked a different challenge out at random. These included: • No kicking except for restarts • Passing wide to score on the wing • 5 or more passes or offloads from a Phase leading to score • Back ball at a lineout popped off the top to the scrum half • Score from a turnover • A kick leading to a try • A jackal turnover at a ruck Bonus points were scored for achieving the challenge in that 10 minute spell and 6 bonus points were scored during the morning (we think).

The challenges made the players think a bit differently on what to focus on and led to some good use of space and Go Forward, strong competition for the ball applying Pressure and support play & passing creating Continuity.

Other conditions on the game included each kick being taken by a different player so we had 13 different players attempt a conversion as well as different players taking re-starts and kicks for touch. Some with more success than others.

Tries were spread out between both Corsairs and Paviors players with the stand-out players in terms of try scoring being Ayden and Nick with 5 or 6 tries between them, scored from their playing position of 2nd row.

It was a big milestone on his recovery for Josh who played his first game since breaking his arm earlier in the season. He started on the wing, move to the back row and ended up in the front row. Great to have you back playing Josh.

Next Sunday we play in the NLD Bowl Semi Final away at Belper and can take some of the learning from this game into our play there.
