This weekend Pavs welcomed Bromsgrove RFC to The Stump in round 23 of The Midlands Premier competition. In recent weeks Pavs have found themselves without a number of key players and this week was no different. Erstwhile scrum half Jonty Green slipped in at 10 with youngster Alex Rimmington donning the 9 jersey in a rejigged back line which also featured returning student Will Taylor. Upfront, prop Theo Collier continued in the row, with young flankers Josh Flanagan and Ed James giving their all for the cause and Aaron Langan coming back into action from the bench. So a period of disruption for Pavs which has tested their resilience to the full.
Both sides went at it from the kick off. Unfortunately, after ten minutes, Ed James received an injury which saw him visit hospital, but also return in good spirits with bruising only. Aspiring hooker Owen Taylor joined the fray and Pavs battled on. Bromsgrove then converted a well constructed try to take the lead. Three more tries were to follow in the next half an hour with home side beginning to look rather bedraggled. Half time 31-0 in favour of Bromsgrove.
Coach Nathan Eggleshaw clearly effected a change of attitude in the half time break and Pavs looked far more sprightly. They began to look more their old selves and went close on a number of occasions. On 60 minutes, however, Bromsgrove executed a fine sweeping move that saw them extend their lead to 38-0. Pavs kept pushing but found the going tough against an increasingly confident Bromsgrove. They scored a final try during the last play to round the scoring and give them the victory at 43-0.
Next weekend Pavs travel to Burton RFC and will hope to field a strengthened XV following the return of the absentees.
