This weekend Pavs made the short trip over to Abbeydale Road to take on promotion bound Sheffield RUFC.
No-one was under any illusion that this would not be a challenging day as Pavs continue to give experience to a number of players in preparation for next season. Sheffield made an excellent start and after a series of plays scored the opening try of the game without Pavs touching the ball in any meaningful way. The home side continued to push hard to extend their score and, despite some very spirited defence from Pavs, were able to score three more tries in the half. Pavs did have their own attacking opportunities but were held out by strong defence.
The second half proved to much the same as the first. Pavs worked tirelessly to defend their line, but were physically out powered by Sheffield. By the end Sheffield had extended their lead to 52-0.
So one of those tough days at the office. The Pavs young squad, 6 of whom are under 20 gave their all and never gave up, this no better exemplified by 19 year old flanker Josh Alton-Smith who made tackle after tackle and put his body on the line for the cause. In typical style, Pavs will lick their wounds and display their customary resilience in returning to pitch to take on Bridgnorth RFC next Saturday at The Stump.
