This weekend Pavs travelled over to Cheshire side Sandbach RFC. Weather conditions on the day were horrendous with wind, rain and cold taking its toll on the brave souls who ventured out in to support their respective clubs.
Despite the conditions both sides did their best to entertain. Sandbach made an intense start down the slope and were rewarded with two early scores, although one would like to contact the TMO regarding two very questionable decisions made by the official!! Pavs did their best to get back in the game only to find themselves with fourteen when scrum half Jonty Green was curiously sent to the bin. Sandbach took advantage of this and extended their lead to 21-0. Pavs finally had an extended period on the opposition’s half and on thirty one minutes George Billam touched down and added the conversion to narrow the lead to 21-7. Unfortunately, Sandbach added another try to go into the break at 28-7.
After the break and playing down the slope, Pavs exerted good pressure and were awarded a penalty try following a Sandbach attempted interception and knock on. Pavs appeared to be back in the game at 28-14, but a further Sandbach try and penalty late in the game extended their to 38-14 which was how the game ended.
As it turned out this was surprisingly entertaining game given the terrible conditions. Pavs were second best on the day, but will look to redress matters next week when they welcome Scunthorpe to The Stump.
