This weekend Pavs travelled down to Birmingham to take on Old Saltleians in the most recent round of the Midlands Regional 2 North competition. Following last week’s emphatic victory over West Bridgford, Pavs were keen to get back on the paddock and pick up more valuable league points. Pavs were able to welcome back Stevie Allen and Theo Collier and impressive loanee Miles Dodsworth. As things turned out, unfortunately OS found themselves rather under strength on the day as this was a rearranged fixture due to an iced pitch some weeks ago.
From the kick off, Pavs were keen to establish their dominance. On ten minutes, fit again skipper Doug Billam jinked his way to the line to score with brother George adding the extras. Two minutes later, fellow centre Dan Stokes sprinted nearly the full length to score and with more Billam extras brought the score to 0-14. Ten minutes after this, explosive flanker Matt Molyneux evaded would be tacklers to score with Billam on hand to add the extras to bring the score to 0-21. Quickly developing wing Luke Snowden then added two further tries in the next six minutes to extend the score to 0-33. Pavs then introduced Pavs’ favourite Steve Allen to the fray, giving talented youngster Archie Hall a break. To finish off a dominant half, Dan Stokes added another long distance try to bring the half time score to 0-40 with the Billam extras.
After the break, Archie Hall returned in the stead of Tom Ryan on the front row. After five minutes, Luke Snowden went in for his third try as Pavs moved the ball through their talented back line, to bring the score to 0-45. Scrum half, Jonty Green then took a break to be replaced by another youngster in the guise of Jack Stanford. In the next ten minutes, the entire Pavs back row got on the score sheet. Matt Molyneux again evaded the defence to score his third try, whilst young guns Nick Smith and Kyle Burney enhanced their quickly developing reputations with a try a piece to bring the score to 0-71 with various George Billam extras. A returning Theo Collier replaced Sam Bradley in the row as the game drew to its conclusion.
A difficult day for OS but to their credit they kept going. Pavs were ruthless in their execution, an aspect they will seek to advance when they travel to Ilkeston RFC next weekend 14th February. (NB - all fixtures kick off at Ilkeston RFC are 3.00pm, elsewhere still 2.15)

Again it would be churlish to select MoMs because this squad is so much more about the collective than the individual. Mates on and off the pitch!!
