Paviors HORNs vs. Mellish 3rds - Match Report
Date: September 23, 2023
Kick-off Time: 14:30
Venue: Paviors Rugby Club, Nottingham
The Paviors RFC Ron Rossin grounds were the showdown this weekend for Paviors HORNS and Mellish 3rd, with kick-off scheduled for 14:30 but due to a miscommunication happening at 14:50. Little did the spectators know that they were in for a treat, as both teams battled it out in an electrifying contest.
The match began with a bang as Paviors HORNs struck first, putting themselves on the scoreboard with a try. The Horns went on to amass a total of 24 points throughout the game, courtesy of tries and conversions. Try-scorers for the HORNs included J. Nye at 13, R. Bragg at 6, A. Jacques at 9, and S. Vickers at 11, with only two of their conversions successfully finding their mark.
However, Mellish 3rd XV were not to be outdone. They showcased their mettle, racking up an impressive 38 points through a combination of tries and conversions, ultimately securing the victory.
The game was an intense affair, with both teams displaying an very fiery competitive spirit. There were moments when tensions ran high, but both sets of players never lost sight of rugby's core values. Amidst the heat of the battle, they remembered the importance of respect and sportsmanship.
Yellow cards made four appearances during the game, with two players from each team finding themselves in the sin bin. For the HORNs, it was J. Nye and J. Goodwin who saw yellow. These temporary exclusions added to the drama on the field, but the players managed to keep their cool and continue the contest.
The coveted title of "Man of the Match" for Paviors HORNs was awarded to A. Jacques, the scrum-half at number 9. Interestingly, it was one single opposing Mellish 3rd team member who had the honor of making the MOTD Choice as he was the only member of the Mellish team to make it to the bar. On the flip side, the "D of the Day" award was humorously handed to T. Greeley. He mistakenly believed he had scored a try on the 5-meter line and confidently informed the referee, adding a touch of lightheartedness to the game.
As the dust settled on this gripping encounter, both teams showed their appreciation for each other's efforts and looked forward to the prospect of facing off again later in the season. The match had exemplified the passion, rivalry, and camaraderie that define the sport of rugby, leaving the teams eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this exciting rivalry.
