Match Report: Paviors RFC 2nds vs. Ashbourne RFC 2nds

On a dreary and rainy afternoon in the heart of Derbyshire, Our 2nds gathered at Ashbourne RFC Ground for an intense battle between our Paviors RFC 2nds and Ashbourne RFC 2nds. Despite the gloomy weather, the spirits were high in both teams.
The match kicked off with Ashbourne making an early statement, showcasing their intent with powerful attacks. However, they were met by the resilient defense of Paviors, who managed to hold them at bay despite the early pressure.
The first breakthrough of the game came after a Paviors penalty, leading to a crucial line-out close to Ashbourne's try line. A. Plant soared high, securing the line-out ball. With Ashbourne failing to engage, A. Plant displayed exceptional determination as he turned and forced the ball over the try line, opening the scoring for Paviors.
As the game progressed, Ashbourne began to struggle with their tackling technique, and the referee issued warnings to both teams regarding high tackles. It was then D. Mangham of Paviors who found himself in the referee's book, receiving a yellow card and a 10-minute rest in the sin bin for a high tackle.
Undeterred, Ashbourne managed to draw level with a well-executed try and a successful conversion.
Just before half-time, Paviors suffered a setback as C. Wain, the young prop, was forced off the field due to a shoulder injury. However, it was L. Snowdon who provided a moment of brilliance for Paviors, eluding the last tackler and diving into the corner to restore their lead. C. Taylor converted the try, giving Paviors a precious advantage heading into the break.
The rain continued to pour in the second half, but Paviors showed no signs of letting up. They started the half strongly, launching a series of flowing phases that began on the halfway line. The ball was expertly spun wide to winger S. Bradley, who touched down near the corner, extending Paviors' lead.
With the game slipping away, Ashbourne fought back valiantly, but Paviors' defense held firm. In a pivotal moment, second-half replacement J. Tones seized the opportunity, picking up the ball from a maul just meters from the try line. He powered through two defenders and eluded others, diving over from close range to seal the victory for Paviors.
However, Ashbourne managed to claw back a try, inspiring a spirited late push. Yet, Paviors' defense stood resolute, and as Ashbourne knocked on at the try line, Paviors seized the chance to work their way back up the pitch. They controlled the game expertly, keeping it high up the field for the last 10 minutes, securing valuable bonus points away from home.
As the final whistle blew, Paviors RFC 2nds emerged victorious with a final score of Paviors RFC 2nds 24 - Ashbourne RFC 2nds 7. It was a well-fought match marked by stout defense, exciting plays, and memorable moments, making it a memorable day for both teams and their dedicated supporters.
