Paviors RFC
Long Eaton RFC

This week we had a visit from Long Eaton, a new team to our fixture list who are currently a mix of U15s & U16s. We were playing on the main pitch in front of the clubhouse so Hannah could set up a couple of video cameras on the balcony to record the game for the players in the team who are doing PE GCSE. We haven’t seen the video yet but it is bound to flag up a lot of good play as well as the flaws of both the players and maybe even the referee. And a compliment to the plethora of wonderful photos taken by Hilary.

Paviors started the game strongly. The whole team worked well to create the chances and Long Eaton struggled to deal with the powerful running of Ayden who ran in for 2 tries.

The opposition started to find their feet, pushed really hard and were rewarded with a kicked penalty for 3 points. They would gained more points and scored a try if their pacey winger had not mistaken the 5m line for the try line and dived too early. Paviors recovered and drove the ball into touch and cleared their line from the lineout.

Paviors closed the half out with the backs getting the ball out wide to full back Isaac who carried into the 22. When he saw that the cover was coming across quickly he slowed his run enough to hold the defence and passed to Elliot who was able to score in the corner.

The second half saw Long Eaton up their game considerably, and their Captain wearing Nr 8 but playing inside centre took a lot of stopping. He and Fin, our inside centre had a very tough half with neither wanting to give an inch but Long Eaton did pick up 2 tries including one for the wing who was unlucky in the first half.

Paviors 4th try came from a break down the left with Isaac running into space and passing to Benny who grubber kicked the ball through and ran onto it to touch down in the corner. Hilary was too close to get a photo and the ref was quite far back. Luckily Oli, running touch this week, was is the perfect position to confirm the grounding.

There was a lot of kicking in the 2nd half which created a lot of chaos on the pitch. Paviors 5th try was scored from a recovered kick by Isaac. He ran the ball across the field and linked up with Ayden who straightened the line to break through the defence and run through to score.

Some try saving tackles prevented Long Eaton from continuing their comeback although they fought very hard. But they let in one final try when Paviors turned over a ruck on the right and left the ball unattended for Ayden to come through the ruck and pick up a free ball and although they tried to hold him back, he was able to make the final score.

Player of the Match chosen by Paviors was Long Eaton’s Captain and chosen by Long Eaton was Isaac, who, although he didn’t score, had a hand in a lot of the Paviors tries.
